Why study Spanish?
Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken world languages. About 400 million people speak Spanish as their first language. It is the official language in over 20 countries. It dominates South and Central America, is the language of Mexico and of course Spain. Tens of millions of people in the US speak Spanish, read Spanish newspapers and watch TV in Spanish.
The great news about Spanish is that it is one of the easiest languages for an English speaker to learn. A lot of Spanish words are very similar to their English counterparts because of common Latin roots. Just go to any Spanish - language website and you will immediately recognize many words and will probably even understand a couple of Spanish phrases without taking a single lesson.
Add to that the widespread accessibility of music, television and other types of media in Spanish. For example, if you live in a typical US metropolitan area, you can just turn on TV or radio to hear modern Spanish in action.
Spanish is a Romance language. Portuguese, Italian and French also belong to this group, so it should come as no surprise that knowledge of Spanish can give you a strong head start in learning these popular languages in the future. Conversely, if you already know another Romance language, it can come handy in becoming fluent in Spanish.
One of the great things about Spanish is that after learning the alphabet, which is similar to English, you can start reading aloud almost immediately since the rules are very consistent and straight-forward.
If you are thinking of learning a new language, Spanish should be on your list of languages to consider.

Do you know why extensive repetition is so useful when learning Spanish?
Your mind needs to realize that whatever you're trying to memorize is actually useful and important, otherwise it wouldn't bother memorizing it. One of the most efficient and time-proven methods is also the easiest to use and understand. That, of course, is the method of repetition. It works particularly well when combined with other methods such as graduated interval recall.
Every time you answer a question with a new Spanish word, it gets imprinted in your memory harder and harder. As a result, the Spanish word (or Spanish phrase) becomes easier and easier to recall. In short, the old adage "practice makes perfect" works well when it comes to learning Spanish words, Spanish phrases and especially Spanish verb conjugation.
